If you’ve been holding yourself back on buying a new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in the hopes of it getting a modern redesign like the standard 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander gas model, you may not have to wait much longer as the new redesigned 2023 Outlander PHEV will be arriving in Canada very soon. What’s more, the new design won’t be the only major update it will bring. Curious? Keep reading this blog from Red Deer Mitsubishi to learn more about the all-new redesigned 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and find out when you’ll be able to buy in Canada and what updates it brings over its predecessor.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada has announced that the newly redesigned 2023 Outlander PHEV will arrive in Canada this November. Apart from the cosmetic changes that make it look more in tune with its stylish and modern-looking gasoline sibling, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, the 2023 Outlander PHEV will offer a new plug-in hybrid technology with more power, more acceleration, and greater range, along with more than 50 new features and technologies. The most significant change, however, comes in the form of a bigger 20-kWh battery, 45 percent larger than the 13.8-kWh battery pack of its predecessor.
The new drive battery of the 2023 Outlander PHEV sits low in the chassis and is fitted between the axles for optimum weight distribution. Engine-wise, the 2023 Outlander PHEV will be powered by a specifically-tuned Atkinson cycle 2.4-litre internal combustion engine mated with twin-electric AWD motors – one at the front and one at the rear. Speaking of which, the 2023 Outlander PHEV comes standard with Mitsubishi’s Super-All-Wheel-Control (S-AWC) with seven drive modes – Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Power, and Eco.
The total output from the new twin electric motors is 40 percent greater than the previous model, while the rear wheels will now get up to 54 percent more power for effortless winter driving. In other words, the front-axle motor generates 114 horsepower, up from 80, and the rear motor makes 134 hp, up from 90. Surprisingly, despite its higher output, the rear motor takes up less space, which allows the Outlander PHEV to have a three-row of seats for the first time.
